Laxmi Narayan Tripathi
Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, better known as Laxmi, is a famous Hindi actress and dancer in India as well as a strong-willed transgender rights activist.
One of Laxmi’s biggest accomplishments to date is the release of her first book in 2016 entitled Red Lipstick. The novel describes her stories of growing into adulthood knowing, as a young boy, that she was transgender and was attracted to men. She also discusses her experiences with all of the men who helped her become “Laxmi”. Laxmi had to fight for her equality and for transgender rights.
As stated in her novel, “My purity cannot be decided on the standards of society. My purity is to my own self, to my own parameters.” Laxmi did not let what her society saw as right and wrong drift her from achieving her ultimate goal. So why should we? We shouldn’t have to conform to fit the molds society creates.
Despite the hardships she encountered when faced with her society’s inability to accept her for who she is, Laxmi remained strong and persevered through it. After all, you are who you are and you must stay true to that.
